Richmond Hill is a large town (almost 200,000 people) located in Southern Ontario, Canada in the central portion of York Region, Ontario. It is part of the Greater Toronto Area, being located about 5 kilometres north of the Toronto city limit at Steeles Avenue and about 20 kilometres north of downtown Toronto. It is the third most populous municipality in York Region and the 28th most populous municipality in Canada.

The Town of Richmond Hill started out as a small settlement located partially in the Township of Vaughan and partially in the Township of Markham. The Town's development was closely linked with the development of Yonge Street, which was planned primarily as a military road by John Graves Simcoe, the first Lieutenant-Governor of the Province of Upper Canada.

Once considered the "Rose Capital of the World", Richmond Hill has in recent years seen a huge population upsurge, being Canada's fastest-growing community in the 1990s.  The town grew to encompass the communities of Gormley, Dollar, Langstaff, Carrville, Headford, Elgin Mills, Jefferson, Bond Lake, Temperanceville, Lake Wilcox, Oak Ridges and Richvale.

Richmond Hill is a prosperous and well developed town with a wonderful theatre on Yonge Street in the heart of the historic section.  Over the years, Richmond Hill has remained a distinctive community, one of change yet with strong historical roots. Even during this time of super-growth, Richmond Hill remain a community with a friendly, down-to-earth flavour. That is why the Town's un-official motto is "A little north, a little nicer."
