Welcome to Cathedraltown in Markham Ontario
Cathedraltown in the Town of Markham, Ontario, gets its name from the Cathedral of the Transfiguration which is a landmark in this area. The community is bounded by Highway 404 to the west, Major MacKenzie Drive to the south, Cachet River to the east, and Elgin Mills Road to the north where it wraps around the historical community of Victoria Square.
Woodbine Avenue runs through Cathedraltown and essentially divides it into two main parts. The residential area on the east side of Woodbine is well established (beginning in 2006) and is centered around Hazelton Avenue. This part of the community existed first before the newer part west of Woodbine Avenue. The community west of Woodbine Avenue is the heart of the community as it is centered around the Cathedral. Construction began in this area around 2007 and is still being completed in 2012. Monarch developers have built most of the homes in this neighbourhood.
