Welcome to Thornhill

Thornhill is a community located on the northern border of the city of Toronto. Thornhill is split into two municipalities along Yonge Street with the City of Markham on the east side and the city of Vaughan to the west.  Even though the "old, original" village of Thornhill revolved around Yonge Street, the community is situated between Hwy. 7 to the north and Steeles Avenue to the south, and between Hwy. 404 to the east and Dufferin Street to the west.

Thornhill was founded in 1794 by Nicholas Miller who settled on the Markham side of Yonge Street and Asa Johnson who settled on the Vaughan side.   In 1820, Benjamin Thorne settled there and operated a gristmill, sawmill, and a tannery in the community.  The settlement came to be known as Thorne's Mills, then Thorne's Hill, and eventually Thornhill.

Large housing developments began in the 1980’s near Bathurst and Clark and continue today.  However, Thornhill maintains an ‘old world charm’ and is steeped in history.  Each year in September, the Thornhill Village Festival attracts people of all ages with a parade, entertainment, historic re-enactments, children’s activities, great food, beer garden, and more.  This is just one of the many activities held in this beautiful community in Markham.

If you would like a private tour of the area, we are just a call or a an email away. Homes for sale in Thornhill can be searched here.
