Welcome to Cornell

Cornell is Markham's first planned community.  This high density development was conceived in the 1990s by the Town of Markham and is seen as the Town's way to deter the ongoing sprawl by building around central amenities and encouraging residential density.  This new urbanism neighbourhood was an immediate "hit" with buyers and remains a very popular place to live in Markham still today.

Cornell and Cornell Village were the first areas to be developed and inhabited.  They are located between Hwy 7 and 16th Avenue, just east of 9th Line.  This "walkable" neighbourhood has some retail mixed in with a variety of housing types. Most of the houses are townhomes, semi-detached or detached houses with garages at the rear.  There are also condominiums available here as well.  These communities are all in walking distance to Markham Stouffville Hospital and public transportation.

Upper Cornell, Cornell Rouge, and Grand Cornell are all recently developed communities surrounding Cornell and Cornell Village.  There is also a strip of "homes" along Bur Oak that are zoned residential/commercial where owners can run a business on the main floor while living on the second floor.
